IT Band Syndrome Physical Therapy in Orlando, FL
The Ache That Cuts Every Run Short.
IT band syndrome doesn't resolve with more rest or another round of foam rolling. It's a loading problem, usually rooted in the hip, and it keeps coming back until that's addressed. We find the cause and build a plan that keeps you running while we fix it.

You've Rested, Stretched, and Rolled It Out, and It's Still There.
The Same Mile Marker, Every Single Run
Pain that shows up at the same distance every time isn't random. It's a loading pattern that needs to be addressed.
Foam Rolling That Never Actually Fixes It
Rolling the IT band offers short-term relief, not correction. The tightness returns because the cause is upstream.
Told to Just Cut Back on Mileage
Reducing volume can quiet the pain temporarily, but it doesn't fix the hip weakness usually driving it.
Root-Cause Care for Outer Knee Pain
IT band syndrome is rarely a problem with the band itself. It's almost always a downstream sign of hip weakness or a loading pattern that hasn't been addressed. We assess how your hip, foot, and running mechanics are loading the IT band, then build a plan that fixes the cause instead of managing the symptom mile after mile.

Hip and Loading Assessment
We assess hip strength, foot mechanics, and how your stride is loading the outside of your knee to find what's actually driving the irritation.

Video Gait Analysis
For runners, gait analysis shows exactly how your mechanics are loading the IT band, so the fix targets the real cause.

Strength Built to Hold Up
We close the hip and glute strength gaps behind most IT band irritation with progressive loading that holds up under real mileage.

How IT Band Syndrome Usually Shows Up
IT band syndrome looks a little different for every runner, but these are the patterns we see most often at Core Values PT.
Sharp or aching pain on the outside of the knee that shows up at a predictable point in a run
Tightness along the outside of the thigh that doesn't fully release with stretching or rolling
Pain that worsens on downhills, stairs, or bent-knee positions
Hip weakness or instability contributing to how the IT band is loaded
Flare-ups after a sudden increase in mileage or training volume
Recurring symptoms after returning from time off running
Pain that eases with rest but returns as soon as mileage builds back up
IT band tightness connected to hip drop or stride mechanics

Frequently Asked Questions
Honest answers about IT band syndrome physical therapy at Core Values PT.
What actually causes IT band syndrome?
IT band syndrome is usually driven by hip weakness, a loading imbalance, or a running mechanics issue, not tightness in the band itself. Stretching and foam rolling can ease symptoms temporarily, but the pain returns until the underlying cause is identified and addressed directly.
Do I have to stop running to fix it?
In most cases, no. We modify your training load rather than eliminate it, and build hip and loading work into your plan from the start. The goal is to keep you running while we address what's actually driving the irritation.
How is this different from rest and stretching?
Rest and stretching manage the symptom, not the cause. We assess your hip strength, foot mechanics, and running form to find what's loading the IT band incorrectly, then build a plan that corrects it instead of calming it down temporarily.
Do you accept insurance?
We're a cash-based clinic and don't bill insurance directly. This gives you a full 55 minutes one-on-one with your physical therapist every session. We accept cash, HSA, and FSA, and provide superbills you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Do I need a referral to start?
No. Florida is a direct access state, so you can start care without a physician referral. Book a free discovery call to talk through your symptoms and confirm we're the right fit before your first evaluation.
